MEMBER OF THE MONTH: SEPTEMBER

KENDALL DEGEER

Kendall is a Marketing student with a design-focused background who has quickly become involved in AMA, built new connections, and taken advantage of opportunities to grow her skills. After previously studying Design, Kendall made the switch to Marketing this year with a design-specific focus. With that change, she knew it was finally time to join an organization she had been interested in for a while: AMA!

Finding Her Place in AMA

Kendall had wanted to join AMA for the past couple of years, but her busy schedule as a Design major made it difficult to find the time. After switching to Marketing, she saw the perfect opportunity to finally get involved.

Having friends within AMA has made the experience even better. Kendall shared that her friend Kiann Schmottlach has helped keep her accountable, while getting involved in Case Study has allowed her to form even more relationships within the organization.

“Another thing that has kept me involved is building relationships with other people in AMA, especially through Case Study.”

Her Favorite AMA Memory

So far, Kendall’s favorite AMA memory has been our picnic at Hemlock Park! The event gave her a chance to step away from homework, spend more time with the AMA board, and connect with other members.

For Kendall, those opportunities to make connections and build friendships have become an important part of her AMA experience.

Growing Through Case Study

AMA has also given Kendall the opportunity to grow academically and professionally through Case Study. She has been able to take what she has learned in the classroom and put those marketing skills into practice while developing new ones along the way.

“I’ve been able to apply my marketing skills and refine them, as well as learn a lot of new marketing skills that I hadn’t known before.”

Her experience shows how getting involved can open the door to opportunities that go beyond regular meetings and events.

Kendall’s Advice to Future Members

For anyone considering joining AMA, Kendall’s advice is simple: give it a shot!

“You will never know if something isn’t for you if you don’t give it a try.”

She also emphasizes that AMA isn’t only for Marketing majors. From building professional skills to creating friendships and making connections, there are opportunities for students from all majors to get involved and grow.

Beyond AMA

Outside of AMA, Kendall enjoys reading, going to the gym, spending time at the library, and continuing to work on herself. She also enjoys learning new skills that she can use in everyday life. You may even find her scrolling through LinkedIn looking for new design techniques and keyboard shortcuts to try!

Whether she is strengthening her marketing and design skills, making new connections, or focusing on her personal growth, Kendall brings a willingness to learn and improve wherever she goes.
