Becca Klap is a senior at Ferris State University majoring in Business Administration and obtaining a minor in Marketing. She interned at One Stop Inc. as a Digital Marketing Intern this past summer. She is currently working in her existing role in Customer Service, as well as assisting the marketing department with miscellaneous tasks. In her role she developed and implemented a SEO (search engine optimization) strategy. This required a great deal of research, collaboration, trial and error, troubleshooting, and project management. She learned first-hand how much technical knowledge and patience is required in SEO implementation, but also how valuable it is to improve their search visibility and scalability. On top of the SEO initiatives, she also worked in email automation and email marketing, social media content creation, product page building, and general website improvement. Additionally, she assisted in clarifying our work processes regarding “building” product parts in our ERP system, a collaboration between the marketing and buying departments. Beyond the hard skills she practiced in digital marketing, she constantly used creative problem-solving, communication, and collaboration to promote their department goals and monitor project outcomes.
Her favorite part of his internship was in the third to last week of her internship, she assisted in the annual photoshoot of their in-house brand. She says that it was a fun and unique experience BTS with her coworkers, other department heads, and the photoshoot crew.
Takeaways Becca has that she can use in her career going forward is that SEO is a process of patience. It’s important to measure the results of your initiatives and perform website audits before going forward with too much at once. Even if she doesn't move forward with digital marketing and SEO after graduation, she has learned how to work effectively in cross-functional teams and overcome challenges.
AMA Ferris is excited for Becca in her success and we can't to see her take on the world!
