Eric Hultgren is the Director of social media and content marketing for MLive Media Group. Eric received his undergraduate degree in communications from Hope College. He went on to get his masters from Grand Valley State University in Communications. As the Director of social media and content marketing, this is Eric’s first job within the marketing world. The skills he has learned look at things from the customer versus from the brand point of view. He has been able to learn more about consumer behavior and consumer attention.
Eric’s advice for students in college today is taking advantage of the free time that you currently have. Do something with your time this could include blogs, vlogs, starting a business will also serve to give you lifelong experiences. Eric's dad told him “never be the last person at a party” which is what Eric considers to be some of the best advice he has gotten.
According to Eric one of the biggest trends in the marketing world is content. He also believes this is one of the most misunderstood concepts in marketing as well. Marketing outside the lines has a lot of different meanings. Eric worries that when it comes to marketing outside the lines or trendy marketing speak as he calls it is not rooted in marketing science or that people are wasting their time and energy because someone said you have to be social trying to chase this next shiny thing in marketing.
